I get scared and think I either did something wrong or that they have found out something about me that I don't want them to know. |

I don't want to think about him anymore. I know that nothing could ever happen between us and I know I could never tell him how I feel, so why can't I just stop thinking about him. |

So a few days ago I bought this organic cheese. It was like $5.50 when the same thing in non-organic was $2.50. But it had a picture of a cow and it made me think of the cows and this cheese doesn't use factory farming and is nice to the cows. So I HAD to get it. And then yesterday you know what I noticed? On the front of the bag it says "rennet free"!!!!! :D hooraaaaaay! I have found my new cheese! :D It made me very happy! :) Current Mood: excited |

i came across this while doing some research...
this is just about the most brilliant, wonderful thing I've read in quite some time. The Christian defender ... is very apt to say that we are entitled to do anything we please to animals because they 'have no souls'. But what does this mean? If it means that animals have no consciousness, then how is this known? They certainly behave as if they had, or at least the higher animals do. I myself am inclined to think that far fewer animals than is supposed have what we should recognize as consciousness. But that is only an opinion. Unless we know on other grounds that vivisection is right we must not take the moral risk of tormenting them on a mere opinion.
On the other hand, the statement that they 'have no souls' may mean that they have no moral responsibilities and are not immortal. But the absence of 'soul' in that sense makes the infliction of pain upon them not easier but harder to justify, for it means that animals cannot deserve pain, nor profit morally by the discipline of pain, nor be recompensed by happiness in another life for suffering in this. ... 'Soullessness', in so far as it is relevant to the question at all, is an argument against vivisection. C.S. Lewis, Vivisectionis it not? |
